1930
Sophia K. Alcorn of Kentucky developed a method to teach oral speech to people who were deaf and blind, and Inis Hall introduced it at Perkins. I applied this method and explained how Keller learned to speak. Keller placed her fingers against my lips, throat, and nose, to feel the vibration made when this familiar letter was spoken aloud. I demonstrate how Helen Keller learned to talk in the Newsreel (Newsreel footage, 1930). Helen speaks the final line “I am not dumb now!” is touching my mind. Watching How to talk

Keller and I begin life-long work and join the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) as advocates and fundraisers. Helen and I consider how to promote this foundation for a long time and finally move to Forest Hills, New York. We emphasized educational and employment possibilities for people with disabilities, particularly those who were blind. Keller’s international reputation and warm personality enabled her to receive the support of wealthy people, and she secured large contributions from Henry FordJohn D. Rockefeller, and leaders of the motion picture industry.

Helen wants to write not only biographic essays but also controversial economic, political, and international issues. Therefore, we have a good idea to meet the people all around and tell them directly. It is another important challenge because we influence them positively. Although my health condition is declining, Polly the secretary, Helen and me performed in vaudeville to have lecture circuits. Vaudeville would be the best way to educate the masses about the struggles of the disabled. We traveled all around the country to form friendships, and believe strongly that all had a responsibility as citizens to act against injustice and social inequalities (Nielsen, 2005). Keller has many public speeches about female legal right, labor right, and unemployment. She supported striking workers and jailed dissidents and expressed a passionate opinion about the need for a just and economically fair society. We even appeared in a film titled "Deliverance." This movie is about me and Helen biography, and it was fun to filming. Helen and I share the opinions about her favorite topics anytime, and she enjoyed to talk about social issues.

I help Keller continue her studies for four years at Radcliffe College. Despite her limited vision, she studies very hard. I still fingerspelled the class lectures into Keller's hand and concentrated interpreting meaning from textbooks to her. In college, she interests different language and takes courses like French, German, Latin, and Greek. I am so thrilled that Keller became the first deaf-blind person to graduate from college. Helen enjoyed talking with the world at large, and she worked hard to learn speaking orally. It was amazing that she completed her work at the college. She will be a hope of blind people.

Helen and I spent two years at the Wright-Humason School for the Deaf in New York. The school aim at the strategy of education is a lip-reading method and vocal speech training. It was a huge challenge for her because Helen is the only deafblind student. Also, Helen studied arithmetic, physical geography, French and German. I attend her class to interpret her all the subjects. Helen has a passion for learning, and I try my best to read all textbooks and lectures. As a result, She got a good grade, and she was able to communicate with other people. It was the historical moment that she can talk by her lips.  I can’t believe it is true!

By looking at how Helen works and progresses for one year, I felt that she need the structural curriculum assistance from the school. I strongly recommended Helen's parents to send her to the Perkins School to get the proper blind and deaf education. Although Helen’s parents can’t afford to pay Sullivan’s school tuition, many wealthy families support her cost including Andrew Carnegie ( Biography, 2016). She is blessed by many people who have mercy. I appreciate their warm and thoughtful heart. Parents finally agreed that Keller goes to the school in Boston and I promise them that I will stay with her school all day. She attended classes with the other Perkins students, and with school director Michael Anagnos help, her academic curriculum start for blind including fingerspelling.

Throughout one month I have been teaching Helen, a seven-year-old blind and deaf girl. I can understand how hard her life has been going through without any vision. She needs to communicate with others, but she doesn’t know how to do it. I deeply think about how to connect the physical objects and the language. Therefore, I challenge that placed her one hand under the water and write a spell “w-a-t-e-r,” on the other hand(AFB Press, 2000). Ann recognized my strategy of the connection between the letter and the real thing. She was able to develop 30 new words by the end of that first day. At once, Keller could express herself way beyond the series of basic signs that had been her means of communication. I observed her interest and used that interest as the entry point for a lesson. I recognized many teachable moments that Helen’s intelligence and curiosity. With my help, Helen master Braille and the manual alphabet letters.

Today is my last day in Perkins School. Although many teachers ignored me, some teachers who trust and encouraged me,  including the school's director Michael Anagnos. I appreciate my teachers who taught me academically and consoled me personally. I am thankful to keep my precious memories in my school days. I am very excited to have a speech valedictorian in graduation. " Fellow-graduates: duty bids us go forth into active life. Let us go cheerfully, hopefully, and earnestly, and set ourselves to find our especial part. When we have found it, willingly and faithfully perform it. For every obstacle we overcome, every success we achieve tends to bring man closer to God."( Biography, 2018). I am so glad this moment at the same time, fears my future where to go.

I was getting acquainted with some of the nice teachers in Perkins school. Especially, Mrs. Sophia Hopkins, the house mother of the school, was like a mother to me. I feel I am her daughter and it makes me comfortable that I can talk to an adult who can understand me. I have nowhere to go on vacation. Fortunately, she kindly invited me to spend days at her Cape Cod home during the summer. I wish I will be an adult like her to take care of children who need help.  Recently, I had my eye surgery several times, and it improved my vision successfully. I thanked God that I could see the beautiful world.

I entered the Perkins Institution which educates blind and deaf people. Most student of this school are the daughters of a rich family. Since I am a poor, they keep bullying me. Even some teachers are mean and impatient. That keeps me bother and makes me angry. I hope I can talk to counseller who can listen to my situation. So, I try to focus on the study and not concerns about those people who are humiliating me. I had mastered the manual alphabet which is the educational strategy for blind people. I memorized many of sign languages and easily communicate with the deafblind person. I hope this skill is the passage for my future and meet the person who needs me.
